10 Essential iOS Tips and Tricks to Maximize Your iPhone Experience
If you own an iPhone, you probably know some of the basic features and settings that make it a great device. But did you know that there are many hidden and lesser-known tips and tricks that can enhance your iOS experience even more? In this blog post, we will share with you 10 essential iOS tips and tricks that you may not have heard of before. These tips and tricks will help you save time, battery, storage, and more.
1. Customize your Control Center.
The Control Center is the menu that appears when you swipe down from the top right corner of your screen. It gives you quick access to various settings and features, such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, flashlight, camera, etc. But did you know that you can customize it to add or remove the icons that you use most often? To do so, go to Settings > Control Center > Customize Controls. Here you can drag and drop the icons to rearrange them, or tap the plus or minus buttons to add or remove them.
2. Use Back Tap to perform actions.
Back Tap is a feature that lets you tap the back of your iPhone two or three times to perform certain actions, such as taking a screenshot, launching an app, or activating Siri. To enable this feature, go to Settings > Accessibility > Touch > Back Tap. Here you can choose what action you want to assign to each tap gesture.
3. Scan documents with your camera.
If you need to scan a document, you don't need a separate scanner app. You can use your iPhone's built-in camera app to do it. Just open the camera app and point it at the document. The app will automatically detect the edges and corners of the document and capture it. You can then adjust the crop, color, and orientation of the scan, and save it as a PDF or an image.
4. Use Picture in Picture mode for videos.
Picture in Picture mode allows you to watch a video in a small window while using another app on your iPhone. This is useful if you want to multitask or keep an eye on something while doing something else. To use this feature, start playing a video in an app that supports Picture in Picture mode, such as Safari, YouTube, Netflix, etc. Then swipe up from the bottom of the screen to go to the home screen. The video will continue playing in a small window that you can move around or resize.
5. Hide photos from your library.
If you have some photos that you don't want others to see when they browse your photo library, you can hide them from view. To do so, open the Photos app and select the photos that you want to hide. Then tap the share button and choose Hide from the menu. The photos will be moved to a hidden album that is only accessible from the Albums tab.
6. Use Siri to translate languages.
Siri can help you translate words and phrases between different languages, such as English, Spanish, French, German, etc. To use this feature, just ask Siri something like "How do you say hello in Spanish?" or "Translate I love you to French". Siri will show you the translation on the screen and also speak it out loud.
7. Create custom widgets for your home screen.
Widgets are small tiles that display information and shortcuts from your apps on your home screen. You can customize your home screen with different widgets that suit your needs and preferences. To add a widget, touch and hold an empty space on your home screen until the icons start jiggling. Then tap the plus button on the top left corner and choose a widget from the list. You can also use third-party apps like Widgetsmith or Shortcuts to create your own custom widgets.
8. Use App Library to organize your apps.
App Library is a feature that automatically organizes all your apps into categories based on their type and usage. It helps you declutter your home screen and find your apps faster. To access App Library, swipe left from your last home screen page. You can also hide some of your home screen pages if you don't need them anymore. To do so, touch and hold an empty space on your home screen until the icons start jiggling. Then tap the dots at the bottom of the screen and uncheck the pages that you want to hide.
9. Use Dark Mode to save battery and reduce eye strain.
Dark Mode is a feature that changes the appearance of your iPhone's interface from light to dark colors. It helps you save battery life by reducing the brightness of your screen and also reduces eye strain by making it easier to read in low-light conditions. To enable Dark Mode, go to Settings > Display & Brightness > Dark Mode.
10. Use Face ID with a mask on.
Face ID is a feature that lets you unlock your iPhone with your face instead of a passcode or fingerprint.
It is very convenient and secure but it may not work well if you are wearing a mask due
to COVID-19 or other health related reasons.
To make Face ID work with a mask on,
you can try this trick:
First,
register your face without a mask as usual.
Then,
go back to Settings > Face ID & Passcode > Set Up an Alternate Appearance.
Now,
fold your mask in half and wear it on one side of your face only. Make sure the other side of your face is fully visible.
Then,
scan your face again with the mask on. This way, you can create an alternate appearance for Face ID that includes half of your mask. You may need to try this several times until it works.
